Laser Gum Treatment in McAllen, TX

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, can cause severe degradation of surrounding gingiva and bone, and ultimately damage your teeth severely when left untreated. When the disease progresses too far, teeth can often become unsalvageable and must be removed. The same disease process, caused by pathogenic bacteria, can cause the same damage to implants and is known as peri-implantitis.

At Valley OMS, we are pleased to offer laser therapy modalities that can eliminate gum disease around either teeth or implants without the need for surgical intervention. Additionally, these laser treatments have shown remarkable success rates, often helping us to save teeth and implants that were previously thought to be hopeless.

If you have experienced any of the symptoms of gum disease or dental implant disease, you may be a good candidate for laser intervention. We invite you to learn more about the treatment options available from Valley OMS, a trusted oral surgery practice serving patients in Texas.

What is Laser Gum Treatment?

LANAP (laser-assisted new attachment procedure) is an FDA-cleared full mouth protocol for gum disease treatment. This minimally invasive treatment results in true periodontal regeneration. A similar treatment, LAPIP (laser-assisted peri-implantitis protocol), utilizes the same core principles to treat patients with dental implant disease. In other words, this technique helps treat implants that have become diseased by harmful bacterial buildup. Our founder Dr. Schwarz has worked with Millennium Dental Technologies to perfect the protocol and has published the highest success rate for treating peri-implantitis in the world.

These procedures utilize laser energy to remove bacteria from the gums and to gently remove any diseased tissue from the gum pocket. Laser energy can also be used in biostimulation settings, unlocking the body’s innate ability to heal and regenerate.

Get Non-Invasive Care for Dental Implant Disease

Dental implants can sometimes become diseased, in much the same way that naturally growing teeth and gum tissues can become diseased. Implant disease can be successfully treated with laser therapies. If you are suffering from diseased implants, reach out to us to get the relief you need.

What are the Benefits of Laser Gum Treatment?

Laser procedures yield a number of significant benefits to the patient:

  • It is considerably less traumatic and less invasive than periodontal surgery.
  • Because there is no cutting or stitching required, recovery tends to be very easy, with minimal bleeding.
  • While surgical intervention requires gum tissue and bone to be cut away, laser treatment actually preserves it.
  • Laser therapy reduces root exposure and sensitivity, as well as the risk of infection.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Gum Treatment?

These treatments on either teeth or implants are not recommended for those who have healthy gum tissue nor for those who only have superficial gingivitis. However, more significant gum disease, associated with deeper gum pockets due to the loss of bone, may be successfully treated with these protocols.
